Industriewaggon GmbH

Industriewaggon GmbH (IWAG), a 100% subsidiary of Rail Cargo Austria AG, was established in December 2000 with the aim of being able to react more flexibly to ever-changing market requirements by hiving off freight wagons into a separate company.

The corporate object reflects a clear-cut division of tasks between IWAG, which makes the assets available, and the companies of the ÖBB Group, in particular Rail Cargo Austria, ÖBB-Traktion GmbH and the subsidiaries of Speditions Holding, allowing them to focus their efforts on market requirements. For the customer, the scheme involves the advantage that IWAG bears the overall funding risk allowing its customers to commit all of their efforts to the market and the utilization of the rolling stock. Today, the company essentially deals with the purchase, sale and hiring out of freight cars and locomotives as well as handling tenders and funding of rolling stock. At present, a total of 8,900 freight cars of various types, 125 state-of-the art locomotives and some 250 special containers are taken care of by IWAG. IWAG is operable on a European scale and has customers in Germany, Italy, France, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

In the division ARISTA (Greek term for "corn ear") the company currently manages about 1,000 cereals wagons owned by customers. It plans and schedules the utilization of these wagons to ensure a high degree of availability for the customers and avoid empty running, thus increasing efficiency.
