ÖBB-Technische Services GmbH
The Technical Services division has been operable for about 10 years. In the course of the ÖBB structure reform, the division was transformed into a limited liability company (GmbH) in 2004. Rail Cargo Austria AG holds an interest of 51% and ÖBB Personenverkehr AG an interest of 49% in ÖBB-Technische Services GmbH. The corporate object is the management of rail vehicles, i.e. maintenance, repair, modernization, assembling and engineering. Other core tasks include building of new and reconditioning of used vehicle components, and development of test and diagnosis facilities.
ÖBB Technische Services GmbH aims at achieving the market status of an industrial company. The ground for achieving this aim has already been prepared in the past years and the increase in productivity by 50% shows that TS is on the right track. In the course of various investment drives in rolling stock and traction units comprehensive know-how was gathered. TS will capitalize on this know-how in international marketing strategies to maintain its role as an active market player.
With regard to RCA, Technische Services aims at recording further increases in the high degree of availability and reliability of rolling stock while maintaining its competitive prices. The increase of rolling stock availability, up from 90 % to 96%, reflects a first success of these efforts. Though better and more efficient utilization of vehicles will result in a reduction of their overall number, the focus on components and international service provision will significantly expand the company's product portfolio, thus opening up new sales markets.
