Wine for the VIPs brought to Kitzbühel by railway

21.01.2010

Rail Cargo Austria in charge of wine transport to Hahnenkamm race

This weekend, Kitzbühel will be hosting the Ski World Cup. The world’s best ski racers will boldly brave and speed down the formidable Streif slope. Thousands of spectators will turn the stadium at the finishing line into a cauldron. 85,000 skiing fans are expected this year and ÖBB-Personenverkehr will ensure their comfortable and environmentally friendly travel to the race weekend by tripling train services around Kitzbühel. But also ÖBB’s goods transport subsidiary Rail Cargo Austria plays a role in the organisation of this ski race that can look back on a long tradition – as wine logistics service provider for the VIP area. 1,100 bottles of the finest Austrian wine are brought to the Tyrol by railway.

Within two days, RCA delivered 500 bottles of Zantho Zweigelt 2008 as well as 600 bottles of Umathum Heidenboden 2007 on the environmentally friendly railway to Kitzbühel. The bottles were transported on Monday from the vineyards in Andau and Frauenkirchen by truck to the logistics centre in Wien-Nordwest. From there, they were forwarded by rail to the logistics centre Wörgl and on to Kitzbühel. They arrived at their destination already early Wednesday morning. All 1,100 bottles were packed in 184 six-bottle cartons. RCA is pleased to have made a contribution to this enormously prestigious sports event for Austria with the successful wine logistics management for the Hahnenkamm race.
