Former managing director of ÖKOMBI, Franz Dirnbauer, takes over the management of the Intermodal business division from Erich Rohrhofer. Rohrhofer changes to ÖBB-Holding AG.

There has been a change in the management of Rail Cargo Austria’s (RCA’s) Intermodal business division with effect on 1 July. Franz Dirnbauer (47) has taken over the management of the Intermodal business division from Erich Rohrhofer (45). Rohrhofer was head of this division since 2005 and now changes to ÖBB-Holding AG’s Strategy Division, where he will hold the position of Senior Advisor. Franz Dirnbauer has been with ÖBB since 1980 and as managing director of the RCA subsidiary ÖKOMBI, has been responsible – among other things - for the Highway on Wheels since June 2007. RCA considers the Intermodal sector a strategic growth market that admittedly is under constant pressure from a business management point of view. “With Franz Dirnbauer, we have an experienced expert from our own ranks as successor of Erich Rohrhofer. We aim to create a more stable economic foundation for the Intermodal business division and, therefore, need to reconsider its strategic orientation. Franz Dirnbauer has my fullest confidence that he will be able to optimally implement this challenge. I would like to congratulate Erich Rohrhofer on his new, challenging assignment and thank him for his excellent work,“ says Friedrich Macher, Spokesman of Rail Cargo Austria’s Board of Management.

Intermodal logistics with RCA

In intermodal transport, Rail Cargo Austria combines the advantages of the rail, road and waterway modes of transport in a transport chain. The punctuality and safety of railway transport paired with the flexibility of road transport results in a reliable and environmentally friendly transport solution offering all advantages of these modes of transports packaged in a product. Intermodal transport is the transport of goods in one and the same Intermodal Transport Unit (ITU) or the same road vehicle with different carriers, with the load unit, but not the transported goods themselves being transhipped.
